ZERO can add a lot of value when added behind a number is an old saying, the new one should be it can add a lot of pride when added as a tag to your figure! The fancy images of models, actresses, and famous personalities have made zero-figure a dream for many girls.

Basically size zero is a clothing size in the American catalog that has a waist-size of about 23 inches and hip size of 30-32 inches. Its craze though almost 10 years now, still remains high among young population. This is to such an extent that health hazards following it are ignored.

It will surprise you that some even lost their lives owing to this pressure. One incident which stirred rebel was in 2006 when 21-year-old Ana Carolina Reston died during her photo-shoot due to severe malnutrition. To add to this tragedy was the death of her sister 18-year-old model Eliana who also was a victim of anorexia. This led to a rebel in many places and a ban on size zero girls was demanded. Famous Italian brands Prada, Armani, etc. also joined hands and discontinued models below BMI( Body mass Index) of 18.Body mass Index is defined as the body mass divided by the square of the body height and an ideal BMI is in the 18.5 to 24.9 range.

What could go wrong?

Zero figure has its own set of disadvantages. Research states that girls dieting to be size zero are at risk of long-term problems such as osteoporosis, cancer, etc. Fat cells play an important role in building bones and severe loss of it can ruin bone health and risk severe consequences.

Some studies also cite that constant images of skinny models and association of good looks to only being thin leads to an increase in eating disorders especially among young women.

Eating Disorders are also on a rise owing to the greed of losing weight unscientifically. Two most commonly seen are Bulimia and Anorexia. In Bulimia, the person ingests an abnormally large amount of food in a short time period and then attempts to avoid weight gain by purging what was consumed.

Anorexia Nervosa- defined as the persistent restriction of energy intake, intense fear of gaining weight and disturbance in self-perceived weight or shape.

Besides this, the emotional disturbances caused are also immense. Depression, anxiety and low self-esteem surround those who are blindly working to achieve this figure.

Losing weight and being fit is worth all the efforts but starving and torturing yourself to fit in the zero figure list is absolutely unjustified.
